Dr. Šavelová’s research focuses on the history of translation, literary translation and translation criticism, as well as on Slovak-Italian literary and cultural relations and Medieval and Renaissance Italian literature.
She is the only active Dante scholar in Slovakia. She authored several monographs, including Dalle origini a Petrarca: commento e traduzione dei testi scelti (2021) and Odhaľovanie Danteho intelektuálnej biografie [Revealing Dante’s Intellectual Biography] (2016). Her monograph Danteho Peklo: idey a interpretácie [Dante’s Inferno: Ideas and Interpretations] (2014) was awarded with the Dean’s prize for an outstanding doctoral publication.
She was the principal investigator of the KEGA project Hermeneutika talianskej literatúry (od stredoveku po renesanciu) [Hermeneutics of Italian Literature (Middle Ages to Renaissance)] (050UKF-4/2018) between the years 2018 and 2021 and received a Certificate from the Cultural and Educational Grant Agency of the Slovak Ministry of Education for an excellent fulfilment of the project’s goals.
She is a member of several scientific and civic associations as well as a number of scientific and editorial boards for academic journals.
Her work as a professional translator focuses on civil law and EU legislation, and she frequently collaborates with the publishing house Enigma.
