Profile:

Jana Ukušová has been working as an assistant professor at the Department of Translation Studies at the Faculty of Arts, CPU in Nitra since September 2020. She teaches mainly practical translation seminars (Translation 2, Specialised Translation 1 and Specialised Translation 2) and interpreting disciplines (Interpreting 2, Simultaneous Interpreting 1 and Simultaneous Interpreting 2). In addition to the above-mentioned areas, her research activities also focus on the didactics of translation and interpreting and audiovisual translation. She regularly publishes on the given topics and participates at national and international conferences (Czech Republic, Portugal, Italy, Spain).

She has completed several traineeships and stays abroad (translation traineeship at the Slovak Translation Unit of the European Parliament, interpreting traineeship at the Model European Union Strasbourg (MEUS), Erasmus+ stay as part of her PhD studies at the University of Lille, France).

She is the principal investigator of the project UGA III/10/2023 Specifics of subtitling as a specific transfer of audiovisual works of Slovak production into a foreign language (2023-2024). In addition, she is co-investigator of the domestic projects KEGA: Precedentness as a tool in testing and improving intercultural competence of translation students and PSI collaborative training in Slovakia: Design, implementation and evaluation of courses for public service interpreters and the international project of the European Union entitled Mental HEALTH 4 ALL: Development and implementation of a digital platform for the promotion of access to mental healthcare for low language proficient third-country nationals in Europe.

She is a member of the international organisation ESIST (European Association for Studies in Screen Translation) and a member of the editorial board of the international scholarly journal Bridge: Trends and Traditions in Translation and Interpreting Studies.

She is also an active translator, focusing mainly on the translation of specialised and institutional texts as well as subtitling.
