On Friday 16 April 2021, Patrick J. Corness, visiting professor of translation at Coventry University, gave an online lecture titled Some experiences of an English translator from Slavonic languages to students of the Department of Translation Studies FA CPU in Nitra.

Professor Corness has been a literary translator for over twenty years. He specialises in translation from Czech, German, Polish, Russian, and Ukrainian to English, and in addition to his literary translations, he has also translated several academic publications. One such publication worth mentioning is Jiří Levý's monograph Umění překladu that was published in English in 2011 by the prestigious publishing house John Benjamins Publishing Company.

More than 80 students and several faculty members from the Department of Translation Studies participated in the lecture, in which professor Corness talked about his experiences with translation into English, and responded to a number of questions addressed to him during the discussion after the lecture.
