An online discussion with translator Veronika Maťúšová was held on 1 March 2022. She introduced students to the translation of one of the most famous works of contemporary French prose, Petit pays (Little Country), by the French-Rwandan author Gaël Faye into Slovak.

At the beginning, in an interview with Dr. Ukušová, Veronika Maťúšová described her translation beginnings and also how she got the chance to the translate this work and what in the book appealed to her the most. The 3rd year bachelor’s students in combination with the French language subsequently presented their own translations of a selected chapter from the book and had the opportunity to discuss their translation solutions with the translator.

We believe that this event has won its place among many events of the Department of Translation Studies, which provide students with contact to experts from practice, will inspire them to read the work and also stimulate their interest in literary translation.
