Creative Translation Workshop

Department of Translation Studies together with the Department of Romance and German Studies and Romanistica Nitriensia organised with the support of the city of Nitra three workshops dedicated to translation and creativity in the first weeks of the winter semester 2022/23. The event aimed to introduce some of the more interesting literary approaches and less well-known poetic forms (such as stream of consciousness, calligrams, lipograms, and Dadaist poetry) and was led by Dr Píšová. Students subsequently used these theoretical findings in creating their own literary translations in languages of their choice, and the output of this event included posters and poems in various languages including Slovak, English, Russian and Hungarian. The third part of these workshops included a discussion led by Dr Šavelová and Dr Martikovič, where students discussed the pitfalls of translating these kinds of literary works and further developed their creative thinking in general translation practice.
